ARISE Features Oluchi & Alek Wek For Its 10th Issue!
Sudanese model ALEK WEK appeared on the latest cover edition of ARISE magazine in a black cut-out bikini and the official World Cup soccer ball*. Accompanying the eye-catching cover was the bold headline- Africa United: Alek Wek and Friends Kick Off Our World Cup Special. The issue also feature Toni Braxton, 2Face, Nwanko Kanu, Chris Aire and more!
Nigerian-model goddess/recent NYU graduate OLUCHI also appeared inside the pages of ARISE. The photoshoot and bold cover were posted up on FACEBOOK in celebration of the 10th issue for the popular African lifestyle, fashion and music publication. (ARISE was launched back in February 2009 with Alek, Liya Kebede and Naomi Campbell on its now historic cover edition.) You can purchase a copy over at MYASHO.COM. Friend to FG2BH, Bella Naija has additional photos! In the meanwhile check out Oluchi and Alek’s ARISE feature…
Alek has been spotted out and about in New York City lately in various chic outfits from her appearance at the Whitney Museum Art Party 2010 to the Tribeca Ball. I love her head wraps! Flaunt what your mama gave you, Alek! 😛

*Speaking of soccer ball, FG2BH would like to say: BIG CONGRATS GOES OUT TO GHANA FOR BEING THE ONLY AFRICAN COUNTRY TO MAKE IT THUS FAR IN THE WORLD CUP 2010 GAME!!! The team was up against the USA and the score was 2-1. If Ghana is successful in the next round, they would go on to become the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup! (President Barack Obama watched the game from Canada while former President Bill Clinton cheered on USA from the stands in South Africa. USA teammates/hunks Oguchi Onyewu and Maurice Edu (who are both Nigerian) looked down after a long match.) Go Ghana!
I’ll leave you all with this fantastic quote made by Ghana’s Gyan who scored one of the winning goals…
“We’ve made everybody proud. Not Ghana alone, but all of Africa.” -Asamoah Gyan
