Iman Receives Service Award at the 2011 BET Honors
Somali model and cosmetics CEO Iman, in a peach-colored J. Mendel pleated dress, attended the 2011 BET Honors with her daughter Zulekha Haywood. BET honored Iman with a service award for her charitable contributions towards The Children’s Defense Fund, Keep A Child Alive, and Action Against Hunger. (She’s the global ambassador for Keep A Child Alive!) Iman tweeted some behind-the-scenes scoop on what she wore and her excitement from the 4th Annual BET Honors. Great to see this dynamic mother-daughter duo*!
Anika Noni wore a blush pink and silver ruffled dress made by Nigerian haute couture designer Deola Sagoe’s Vintage Spring/Summer 2010 collection to present the award. Anika said on the red carpet that she choose the dress because she wanted to wear African to support Iman’s regal flair.
FYI: Haywood wore a purple Rachel Roy ruffle shoulder dress. As you can see, actress Anika Noni Rose presented Iman with her 2011 BET Honors Service Award and during the show Iman sat down with her fellow honoree Cicely Tyson and her daughter. The annual event which honored accomplished African-Americans for positive contributions to the community was held in Washington, D.C. Hosted by Gabrielle Union, the 2011 BET Honors airs on Monday, February 21 at 9PM.
The 2011 honorees are: Legendary actress, Cicely Tyson (Theatrical Arts); Academy Award-winning actor/musician/comedian, Jamie Foxx (Entertainer); supermodel/entrepreneur, Iman (Service); publishing mogul, Linda Johnson Rice (Media); world-renowned musician/composer, Herbie Hancock (Musical Arts); and accomplished historian/educator, Lonnie G. Bunch (Education).
In related news, Zulekha, a self-proclaiimed wordsmith, has a must-read blog called The Daily Delusion and a Twitter page which she launched around the time of her Glamour magazine body image article. Iman had Zulekha during her marriage to NBA Olympic legend Spencer Haywood. For those that miss Zulekha’s interview with Today’s Hoda & Kathie Lee, check it out below…
