Best Fashion Moment Featuring Ajak Deng

February 8, 2011

Sudanese model Ajak Deng is having a career high from her feature in Vogue Italia and Vogue USA to her Pre-Spring 2011 i-D magazine cover. She also made history for women of color in modelling by closing the Lanvin Spring 2011 runway show alongside Jeneil Williams, Ataui Deng, Jourdan Dunn, and Melodie Monrose. Ajak was inspired to join the fashion industry by fellow Sudanese model Alek Wek.

i-D Pre-Spring 2011 cover feature Ajak Deng in Vogue USA – “Gangs of New York” by Mario Testino featuring Chanel Iman, Joan Smalls, and Arlenis Sosa. Ajak for Vogue Italia – “The Black Allure” by Emma Summerton featuring Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Melodie Monrose, Arlenis Sosa, Sessilee Lopez, Rose Cordero, Georgie Badiel and Aminata Niaria.

Okay lets focus on this on shot of Ajak in this Jil Sander number. It’s by far my favorite snapshot of the Sudanese model thus far. Nigerian model Nnenna is also a fan of Jil Sander. Remember this look from 2008?  Drew Barrymore is also a fan of Ajak’s orange strapless Jil Sander dress. It’s another fun fashion faceoff. One rock it for a red carpet event while the other wore it for a fashion editorial. Which lady pulled off the look – Ajak or Drew?

Ajak for Arise #11– “Le Rendez-Vous” by John-Paul Pietrus featuring Ateni Deng.
