Solange Knowles Wears Boxing Kitten at Victoria’s Secret SWIM Collection Event

March 31, 2011

Solange Knowles has quickly become the unofficial/official celebrity spokesmodel for Boxing Kitten. (If that’s not what’s called loyalty to a brand, I don’t know what to call Solange’s open obsession for all things Boxing Kitten by Maya Lake!) Here she is attending the Victoria’s Secret SWIM Collection Pink Carpet event in a cropped Boxing Kitten top and her favorite turquoise and gold box clutch. Loving the way Solange wore the top with a full length yellow skirt!

From New York Spring 2011 Fashion Week to pre-Grammy 2011 festivities, Solange simply cannot get enough of her favorite style piece – this turquoise and gold box clutch.

Solange, an avid Twitter, also wore the same top for her Honey Magazine photo shoot last September alongside Theophilus London. Gotta love Solange for supporting African fashion designs!

I love your blog so much . Here is my thing I do not think she is supporting African fashion at all . She is supporting an American designer who does not even recognize that this fabric is unique to africa . I love solange but she needs to try other real African designers like Jbl

Completely agreed with you, Lo. I too feel the same way at times but ankara is ankara, right? I mean look at how Gwen Stefani used wax prints/African texitles for her Spring/Summer 2011 collection last Fashion Week. I do support and love and admire African fashion labels like JBL, Aya Morrison, Naana B, Zed-Eye, Suno and Duro Olowu who always seems to be ahead of the curve on this ‘in’ trend – all things African Fashion. I wonder if JBL or Solange have communicate to each other. We have seen Kelis rocking Zed-Eye and JBL on numerous occasions. Erykah Badu is notoriously for rocking ankara lately. Who can forget that Suno blazer on Heidi Klum and Esperzana Spalding? I love that Nollywood is embracing African fashion labels like Eku Edewor wearing JBL and Genevieve wearing JBL/Zed-Eye for high profile events. I think if more of OUR people wear African fashion labels for key, high profile events this trend wouldn’t be so scrutinized. African fashion is more than ankara. I don’t know if I’m making any sense.

very chic, I love the Ankara, and yes perhaps she needs to support her African designers, there are plenty of them.
    Great post, As usual!!
