Anita Quansah London has had a successful year in fashion. The London-based Nigerian, Ghanaian designer has collaborated with Jewel by Lisa’s new fusion line, The J Label to create exquisite jewelry. Anita’s flair for incorporating vintage with modern, contemporary designs has caught the eyes of Nigeria’s singing sensation Tiwa Savage who wore her statement neckpiece at P-Square’s concert. Founding member of the Sugababes Keisha Buchanan sparked Anita Quansah London red carpet fever when she attended Fashion For Relief in London.

Actress Nicole Ari Parker was spotted in another exquiste KIKI Clothing dress at a major red carpet event. The event in question was the 5th Annual Pre BET Awards celebration dinner which she attended with her husband Boris Kodjoe. If you listen closely, you’ll wear the cheers of KIKI Clothing creative director and founder Titi Ademola! KIKI Clothing is a reputable Nigerian/Ghanaian fashion label run in Accra, Ghana by Titi who counts Nicole as one of her star fans/clients. It’s great to see Nicole lending her celebrity status to promote African fashion label straight from the source!
Nicole Ari Parker was inspired by Titi’s unique taste on ankara designs during a trip to her husband’s paternal homeland, Ghana. She wore as FG2BH first reported KIKI Clothing shirtdress during the Oscar 2011 weekend celebration. We love that Nicole’s supporting African fashion labels! I must say that Boris handled his own matching his tie with the colors of his wife’s dress! Follow Nicole and Boris on Twitter: @nicolearip @boriskodjoe
When I first saw this teaser clip for Beyonce’s new hit single, “Run The World (Girls)”, I wonder if she’ll use Nigerian pop singer and dancer Celestina Aladekoba as one of her backup dancers. Rumor has it that Beyonce recruited over 200 African dancers for the video treatment – a rumor that got shut down thanks to the viral previews that’s all over YouTube. I’m glad my assumption of that Beyonce/Celestina connection was proved right when I spotted Celestina as of the female dancers featured in a 21 second teaser trailer for Beyone’s female empowerment/ club anthem “Run The World (Girls).” Celestina’s appearance is very brief but she appears three times in the clip! No word on any further role Celestina may play in the video treatment which is schedule to debut online and on TV soon! Check it out below…
As previously reported Celestina rose to fame when she appeared in Prince’s Black Sweat video and 50 Cent nicknamed her “Matrix” for her gravity-defining dance moves. Celestina, who goes just by her first name professionally, has worked with music’s biggest names like Usher, T-Pain, Chris Brown, and especially Jennifer Lopez who produced the MTV dance competition, “Dance Life”, a show that Celestina appeared on. Celestina now focus on her blossoming music career which she had the viral hit, Renegade. Follow Celestina on Twitter: @celestinarocks
Update: It’s finally here! Check out the official video treatment for “Run The World (Girls).”
Are you interested in who inspired the dance moves in the beginning of the video? Beyonce’s dance director Frank Gatson, Jr. was moved by Mozambican dancers Tofo Tofo. Here’s the original video that inspired the Run The World dance moves. I think it’s great that Beyonce is looking to Africa for inspiration.
Frank Gatson, Jr. on Run the World choreography inspired by Tofo Tofo: “We prepared a lot for it. We had seen something on YouTube; we had seen these three guys from Africa, this Mozambique African dance troupe … we were like, ‘Wow, this is an amazing movement. We say, ‘Share the light, you sparkle brighter,’ and we share our light with a lot of new, creative people. I feel like we really nailed it and, again, my hats off to the Tofo Tofo guys [from Africa], ’cause none of us could imitate that. We had to bring them around to learn that [move], which is really, really interesting. They had such a great vocabulary of movement. hat was probably one of the most beautiful experiences for Beyoncé. They were so humbled,” he said. “It was hard finding them. They were really in a remote area; we had to get the embassy people involved. That was a process that took about two months or more. Beyoncé really loved them and I’m pretty sure we’ll see them again. It was magical.” (MTV News)
UPDATE: Check out the first televised performance of Run The World (Girls) at the 2011 Billboard Awards.
Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji – the woman that Oprah Winfrey named Nigeria’s Julia Roberts, celebrated her birthday at London’s Bungalow 8 with rumored boyfriend D’Banj. The rumors of these two heated up when D’Banj asked Genevieve to be his on-screen girlfriend for his “Fall in Love” music video. Since then they have spotted at key Nollywood events such as the 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards. Genevieve’s Twitter timeline (@genevievennaji1) was flooded with birthday well-wishers yesterday. Vannessa Amadi, managing editor of VAR-PR published a handful of exclusive photos taken at Genevieve’s friends-only birthday celebration!
So does this confirmed the rumors or is it that D’Banj and Genevieve are simply friends – nothing more or nothing less! Love Genevieve’s Christian Louboutin metallic slingbacks!
Thandie Newton (in Stella McCartney) attended fashion’s biggest night hosted by Vogue’s Anna Wintour – The Annual MET Costume Gala. This year the event honored the late Alexander McQueen via an exquiste theme – Savage Beauty. Thandie pose for photo ops with Jimmy Choo’s Tamara Mellon and actress Fredia Pinto. At the 2010 event Thandie wore a pink and black Vivienne Westwood number and this year she decided to stick with regal black!
Black seems to be Thandie’s staple style look at the MET Gala as evident by her black and lace number three years ago ! Nonetheless Thandie’s dress seems to be a variation of her Stella McCartney lace jacket that she wore outside Mayfair London.
Her fondness of this look echoes that old saying, If ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Check my Tumblr for more MET Gala 2011 photos!
