While browsing Essence I stumbled across their great feature on Africa Fashion Week New York’s street style. The article also highlight pieces from Nigerian women’s collection Chianu. The brainchild of Chidima Anusiem, Chianu also has co-designers Hope Anusiem (Chidima’s sister) and Chioma Akhabue (see below). From the vibrant fabrics to the fashion-forward designs, Chianu is a designer YOU must know. What I love about the collection is how the designer uses wax print fabrics to create sleek, modern everyday style that takes you from a fashionable event to a causal day of fun.
Chianu presented its Fall 2010/Summer 2010 collection at the Africa Fashion Week New York recently. Trends we spotted were ruffles, Afro-chic prints, ’80s-inspired shoulder pads, one-sleeve looks, elaborate arm sleeves, and trains. Not bad for a collection that’s focus on Cocktail, Formal, and Semi- Formal Apparel for Women! I’ve got my eyes set on that one sleeve bubble cotton dress ($119.00) from their Summer 2010 collection. This collection is one to watch in the future. My dream celebrity wish list to wear Chianu: Oluchi, Alek Wek, Liya Kebede, Rita Dominic, Estelle, Thandie Newton, Millen Magese, Agbani Darego and Uche Jombo.
